Action happens in the estate of the first wife of professor Serebryakova where he is temporarily forced to live, without having sufficient means for worthy life. Many years the estate is looked after by Ivan Petrovich Voynitsky, the brother of the late spouse of professor who deals with all economic issues. He is helped by his niece Sonya, the daughter Serebryakova from first marriage. Also in this manor there live the impoverished landowner Ilya Ilyich Telegin, the old nurse Marina and Maria Vasilyevna Voynitskaya...

The plot revolves around the efforts of a nervous and excitable man's attempt to propose
to an attractive young woman. Due to a tremendous quarrel over his property's boundary line,
his efforts are deterred.

'The Bear' comedy derives from the characters' lack of self-knowledge. The widow Popova fancies herself inconsolably bereaved, while Smirnov considers himself a misogynist. They both pretend to be more than they actually are.

Alexandre de La Patelliere "The Name"
Vincent, a real estate agent and father-to-be is invited for dinner by his sister Elisabeth and his brother-in-law Pierre. Their childhood friend, Claude, is also invited. Vincent is a wealthy, successful capitalist, while Pierre, a university professor, is much more liberal. When Vincent reveals the name of his future son, his hosts are horrified. The situation eventually gets out of hand, when no one can come to an understanding, and everyone starts unearthing old rivalries and unspoken issues.
